Summary
At the beginning of the article, consideration was given to the need to introduce the term “young person” into the Criminal Procedure Law, referring to persons aged eighteen to twenty-one years. The following section of the article provides a discussion of the need to extend several of the peculiarities contained in the Criminal Procedure Law, which apply to minors who have rights of defence, to “young persons”. It is concluded that the need to preserve the peculiarities of minors for persons under twenty-one years of age arises, because the emotional and physical development of persons, understanding of the criminal procedure and the seriousness of the offence committed are different.
