Ieskats Valmieras viduslaiku vēstures tēmu problemātikā 18.–19. gadsimta vācbaltiešu historiogrāfijā

Anotācija
Raksts ir neliela daļa plašākam pētījumam, kas būs veltīts Valmieras viduslaiku vēstures atspoguļošanai historiogrāfijā. Ņemot vērā gan profesionālo, gan vēsturnieku amatieru, publikāciju apjomu, rakstā tiks aplūkotas 18. un 19. gadsimtā priekšplānā izvirzītās tēmas, kas apraksta Valmieru viduslaikos. Līdzās citu autoru darbiem Rīgas vēstures un senatnes biedrības (Gesellschaft für Geschichte und Altertumskunde zu Riga, darbojusies 1834–1939) bibliotekāra Vilhelma Heines (Wilhelm Friedrich Heine, 1871–1917) 1894. gadā izdotā grāmata “Beiträge zur Geschichte der Stadt Wolmar”, kļuvusi par visvairāk citēto darbu Valmieras viduslaiku vēstures sakarā. Raksta mērķis: analizējot historiogrāfiju, noskaidrot populārāko tēmu problemātiku Valmieras viduslaiku vēsturē, kas aktuālas vēl šodien. Izpētes gaitā gūtas atziņas, ka liela daļa problemātikas radusies nekorektu, nekonkrētu vai neesošu atsauču lietošanā, nepareizu faktu interpretācijā un tulkojumos, nekritiski uzticoties autoritātēm. Minētie faktori devuši iedvesmu raksta autores tālākiem pētījumiem, salīdzinot aprakstītos faktus ar to, ko iespējams atrast publicētos un nepublicētos oriģinālavotos.

An Insight into the Problems of Medieval History of Valmiera in the German-Baltic Historiography of the 18^th–19^th Centuries

Abstract
The article is a small part of a larger study, which will be devoted to the representation of the medieval history of Valmiera in historiography. Given the volume of publications, both by professional and amateur historians, this article will focus on themes foregrounded in the 18^th and 19^th centuries that describe Valmiera in the Middle Ages. Alongside the works of other authors, the book “Beiträge zur Geschichte der Stadt Wolmar”, published in 1894 by Wilhelm Friedrich Heine (1871–1917), a librarian of the “Gesellschaft für Geschichte und Altertumskunde der Ostseeprovinzen Russlands” (active: 1834–1939), has become the most quoted work on the medieval history of Valmiera. In the course of the research, it was found that many of the problems arose from the use of incorrect, vague, or non-existent references, misinterpretation and mistranslation of facts, and uncritical trust in authorities. These factors have inspired further research by the author of the current article, comparing the facts described with those that can be found in the published and unpublished original sources.
