Sena teorētiska teksta tulkošana paver divas iespējas: brīvi un kur nepieciešams lietot internacionālismus vai arī konsekventi izvairīties no tiem, ļaujot izpausties mērķvalodai gan ar tās esošo vārdu krājumu, gan daudzviet darinot jaunvārdus. Raksts iztirzā Aristoteļa „Rētorikas” teksta tulkojumu no sengrieķu valodas, kura tulkotāji izvēlējušies otro iespēju – tulkotajā tekstā izmantot tikai latviešu valodas vārdus. Pārsvarā aplūkoti tieši jaundarinājumi, kuri sakopoti tulkojuma tekstam pievienotajā īpaši veidotajā glosārijā, kas ir rakstā izmantoto piemēru arsenāls. Analītiski tiek apskatīti gan šāda glosārija izveides principi, gan uzrādīti galvenie vārddarināšanas paņēmieni, komentējot arī jaunvārdu saikni ar avotvalodas kontekstu, atkarību no tā, arī iekļaušanos latviešu valodas vidē. Raksts balstīts „Rētorikas” latviešu tulkojuma divu secīgo izdevumu materiālos (2020. un 2023. gadā), daudzviet tos arī salīdzinot, komentējot izmaiņas un papildinājumus glosārijā.

Neology in translations of classical theoretical texts into Latvian: The glossary material for Aristotle’s “Art of Speech – Rhetoric”
The translation of an ancient theoretical text opens up two possibilities: to use internationalisms freely and where necessary, or to consistently avoid them, allowing the target language to express itself both with its existing vocabulary and, in many cases, by creating new words.
This article considers the translated text of Aristotle’s “Rhetorics” from ancient Greek. Here, the translators chose the second option – to use only Latvian words in the translated text. Innovations are considered, they are organized in the specially created glossary attached to the translation text, which is an arsenal of examples used in the article. The principles of creating such a glossary are evaluated analytically, and the main techniques of word formation are presented, commenting on the connection of new words with the context of the source language, their dependence on it, as well as their integration into the Latvian language environment.
The article is based on the materials of two successive editions (2020 and 2023) of the Latvian translation of “Rhetorics”, comparing them and commenting on the changes / additions in the glossary.
